Fume extraction
A laser removes material as smoke and fine particulate. Ducted extraction to the outside, or a rated fume filter, has to run whenever the beam is on - this is part of owning the machine, not an upgrade.
A CO₂ laser's infrared beam couples into organic materials and acrylic far more efficiently than a diode, so at the same wattage it cuts several times thicker - and it cuts clear acrylic, which a diode cannot touch. It will mark coated and anodised metal but will not cut bare metal. This is the general-purpose cutter of the desktop laser world.
OMTech rates it at 55 W optical output at 10600 nm. We score that against the reference ceiling for a co₂ source, so the power figure reflects how it stands among machines of its own kind.
The working area is 500 × 300 mm. A pass-through (Front and rear pass-throughs) lets you feed material longer than the bed in stages.
OMTech states it works with wood, paper & leather, acrylic, fabric and coated-metal marking. A CO₂ laser cuts and engraves organics and acrylic and marks coated metal; it will not cut bare metal.
Before cutting any unfamiliar material, check which materials must never go in a laser. PVC and vinyl release chlorine gas that is toxic to you and corrosive to the machine - the single most important rule in laser work.

Laser glasses are rated for a specific wavelength; a pair for a blue diode does nothing against a CO₂ or fibre beam. Match them to this machine's source.
A jet of air at the cut point clears smoke and suppresses flare-ups, giving cleaner cuts and fewer fires. Some machines include it; many sell it separately.
Supports the work while letting the beam pass through and smoke escape below, which keeps back-reflection and scorching down on cut jobs.
