CNC & laser troubleshooting
When a cut goes wrong, the answers are scattered across a dozen forums and locked inside single-brand support portals. This is the independent, brand-agnostic version. Every page takes one symptom, gives you the one or two most common causes up front, then a checklist ordered by how often each is the answer - with the tell that confirms which one you have, and the fix.
The recurring theme: most problems are setup, not hardware - feeds and speeds, focus, hold-down, tuning - and we say plainly when it is genuinely the machine and link the data that proves it.
CNC router & mill
Why is my CNC router losing steps?
Position drifts mid-job; each layer or repeat is offset from the last.
Diagnose it →Why does my CNC bit keep breaking?
End mills snapping mid-cut - often around curves or in one spot.
Diagnose it →Why is my CNC chattering or leaving a rough finish?
Rippled, rough, or washboard surface; audible vibration in the cut.
Diagnose it →Why is my CNC burning or scorching the wood?
Scorch marks, usually on curves or where the machine slowed.
Diagnose it →GRBL alarms and errors, explained
Alarm 1, 8, 9, 'machine locked', homing and soft-limit errors decoded.
Diagnose it →Why does my CNC leave tearout or fuzzy edges?
Splintered top edge or fuzzy fibres - usually a bit-geometry issue.
Diagnose it →Why does my CNC forget its position or lose Z zero?
Zero moves, Z is wrong, or the machine 'forgets' where it was.
Diagnose it →Laser
Why won't my laser cut through the material?
Laser scores or marks but won't cut all the way through.
Diagnose it →Why is my laser engraving faint or inconsistent?
Engraving comes out faint, patchy, or smoky-yellow.
Diagnose it →Laser safety & materials you must never cut

Most of the fixes here come back to feeds, speeds and the right cutter for the material. The calculator and the material how-to guides are where that lives.
