Genmitsu ABS Dust Shoe, 52mm Review: Specs, Fit & Feeds (2026)

Sized for the 52 mm spindle mounts on the smaller Genmitsu machines. Check your spindle diameter before ordering - 52, 65 and 69 mm are all common and none are interchangeable.

Dust hardware is a health control rather than a convenience, and capture happens at the cutter or effectively not at all. The fine fraction of MDF and composite dust stays airborne for hours after the machine stops, which is the part a broom cannot address.

What you get

Capture depends on the seal, not on suction. A shoe that does not sit flush against the work loses most of its effectiveness however powerful the extractor behind it, which is why the fitment figure matters: this one is sized for 52mm spindle bodies. Measure the spindle body itself rather than the collet nut - the two are frequently different, and a shoe one size out simply will not seal.

What the specifications mean in use

Carbide grade: ABS
Grain size is the trade-off nobody puts on the box. Finer-grain carbide takes and holds a sharper edge, which is what you want for a clean cut in wood and plastics; coarser grain is tougher and survives interrupted cuts and crashes better. A fine-grain cutter run at the right chip load will outlast a tough one run badly, so the grade matters less than the feed you give it.

This is the specification that decides whether the product works at all, and it is the one most often measured wrong. Measure the spindle body - the cylindrical motor housing the mount clamps to - not the collet nut below it, which is always a different diameter. A shoe one size out will not seal, and a dust shoe that does not seal captures very little regardless of what is pulling on the other end.

When to reach for it - and when not

Good for
  • Any cutting in MDF, plywood or composites, where the fine fraction is a respiratory hazard rather than a mess.
  • Long jobs, where airborne dust accumulates for hours after the machine stops.
  • Whenever the spindle diameter matches - fitment, not suction, is what decides whether capture works.
Look elsewhere for
  • Relying on a shop vac in the corner. Capture happens at the cutter or effectively not at all.
  • Long, coiled hose runs. Every bend costs airflow, and airflow is the entire mechanism.
  • Assuming a stiff, worn brush still seals - it is the most common cause of capture quietly getting worse.

Getting the settings right

There is nothing to calculate here, but there is something to get right: keep the hose run as short and as straight as the bench allows. Every bend costs airflow, and airflow is the entire mechanism - a long coiled hose behind a good shoe will underperform a short one behind a mediocre shoe.

Match hose diameter to the extractor rather than to the shoe. A shop vac moves a small volume at high velocity and suits a narrow hose; a proper dust extractor moves a large volume at low velocity and wants a wide one. Putting a wide hose on a shop vac drops the velocity below what is needed to keep chips moving, and they settle in the pipe.
