The temptation is to read the price gap as 'more machine', and that is not what it buys. The Vasto arrives with a rated spindle and an open-loop drive; the XE-Ultra arrives with a much larger bed, a closed-loop drive and no spindle at all. Buy this if you want to cut on the day it arrives
It ships with a spindle rated in watts, so the price on the box is much closer to the price of cutting. The trade is the drive: open-loop steppers cannot detect a lost step, which matters in hardwood at depth and matters a great deal in metal.
Buy this if you need the envelope and can specify a spindle
A near-full-sheet bed and closed-loop control on every axis - the two things that are expensive to fix later. You are taking on the spindle decision and its cost yourself, and FoxAlien publishes no material range, so its ceiling in harder materials is unverified.
If this is your only machine and you want to be cutting quickly, the Vasto is the better-value purchase - a fitted spindle is worth more than most buyers expect once the accessory bill arrives.
If it is a second machine and you already know which spindle you want, the XE-Ultra is the stronger platform: closed-loop drive and a much bigger bed are the parts you cannot bolt on afterwards.
